McLean Electric/Basin Electric Scholarship

McLean Electric Cooperative, Inc. is pleased to offer a scholarship program to assist youth in pursuing their higher education goals. The Scholarship Program is designed to encourage and recognize the academic achievements of the children of member-cooperative consumers, or student members of the Cooperative. The recognition will be in the form of scholarships to assist with their post high school education.

The Scholarship Program will award two scholarships in the amount of $500. The scholarships must be used for educational costs, and the student must enter a higher education institution in the fall of the school year for which the scholarship is given or be an enrolled higher education student. Checks will be made payable to the school.

The scholarships will be awarded at McLean Electric’s Annual Meeting which is held the third Tuesday in June.

Eligibility and Application Requirements

  1. Download and complete the application (PDF) by typing or printing, attach additional sheets if necessary.
  2. Enclose your most recent academic transcript whether it be from a high school, College, University, or trade school.
    *Current college freshman* – Judges will screen and require more than one semester or quarter of grades. If this applies to you, submit your high school transcript.
  3. Enclose a copy of your college entrance examination (ACT and/or SAT) scores.
  4. Enclose a statement written by you outlining your career goals and employment history.
  5. Enclose one letter of reference from a teacher, counselor, employer, or system manager.
  6. Document high school/college honors, community, and school activities.
  7. Please include a photograph. Recipient’s photo will be used on our web site and in our annual meeting booklet.

2009 Scholarship Winners...

The McLean Electric Cooperative scholarship committee has chosen Christina Myers and Michael Price as recipients of the McLean Electric/Basin Electric Power Cooperative scholarships.  These scholarships were awarded on the basis of academic excellence, which includes the following criteria: ACT scores, work experience and participation in school and community activities.  Both scholarships were for $500 each.

Chistina Myers graduated from Garrison High School and is the daughter of Stanley and Connie Myers of Raub.  She will be attending Concordia College pursuing a degree in Public Relations.  Extracurricular activities played a large part in her academics including speech, FBLA and music festivals.  Christina will be employed by the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation this summer.

Michael Price, the son of Joseph and Maryjo Price, is currently a freshman at North Dakota State University.  He is pursuing a degree in Statistics.  Michael also helps on the family farm at Douglas.  He represented McLean Electric Cooperative at the Rural Electric Youth Tour in Washington, D.C., in June 2006.

Financial assistance award

Beth Ayash, the daughter of Cindy Kleemann and Randy Narum was awarded a financial assistance award in the amount of $500.  She is married to Scott Ayash formerly of Minot.  Beth is currently a junior at the University of North Dakota majoring in Communications.  She also works as a Ballroom Dance Instructor at UND.
